Psychic

I was walking back to Grand Central Station last Thursday after an event with Korean students at the United Nations, when I spied a pretty young lady seated at a small table at the south-western corner of West 44th and Second Avenue. She had a stack of brochures from which she was handing out copies to passersby.

On the table sat a colourful sign which read “Psychic Readings.” When the pedestrian crossing light turned green, I walked across Second Avenue towards her. When I reached her, she glanced at me and handed me a brochure.

“Did you know I was coming?” I asked.

She gave me a wan smile and replied, “Yes.”

I guess she gets that a lot.

I wonder if she had also predicted that the brochure she had given me would soon be lying at the bottom of the trash can behind her, and if she eventually retrieved them to hand out to other passersby?

A New York moment.
