Anguish

You can take that word
toss it in your head
like an earnest juggler and
hope, no pray, to catch it on
its downward flight
and should you blink
just for a fateful moment
it falls and tumbles
and sinks like an anchor
deep down into your chest
where it sits like an eternal deadweight
slowly ripping your soul apart
