it happened this morning
no hello no goodbye

just left

it took my breath away
like the cold wintry gust
that whistled through
my open window
and stung my head
as if an icy cold compress
had been pressed hard
against my brow

I stared at the cold blue glow
from my flickering screen
but it offered no respite
from those stark words
