    November Haiku

    (disposition — a haiku chain)

    Temper lava flows
    mind’s rumbling thunder ebbs
    calm sense cools blind rage

    Dark clouds in my mind
    scatter like frightened blackbirds
    in love’s warm embrace

    (Kyushu — a haiku chain)

    Flashes of countryside
    flickering images through window
    murmuring Shinkansen

    Climbing Mount Aso
    hissing plumes of toxic fumes
    temper my slow ascent

    (home — a haiku chain)

    Mile high metal tube
    contrail ribbons trace the sky
    floating dreams of home

    Windy chills swoop in
    chiming raindrops announce
    coming winter snow

(Malaysian desserts — a haiku chain)

    Blue stained pulut rice
    golden caramel kaya
    delicious pairing

    Gently peeled red and
white layers melt on my tongue
    my childhood pleasure

    White coconut shreds
    conceal your core of liquid
    gula melaka

    Soft snowy santan
    crowns your verdant velvety
    sweet under-layer

    Chewy red tortoise
    resting on banana leaf
    sweet mung bean paste tummy
