All creatures have Mothers
\nand whatever their shape or form
\nall Mothers have loved their offspring
\nsince Earth’s very first dawn<\/p>\n
Whether they’re high in the treetops
\nor in the forest deep
\nthey watch over their loved ones
\nas they stir gently in their sleep<\/p>\n
And Mother’s there to nurture
\nand lend them a guiding hand
\nto survive in a shrinking world
\nravaged by the advance of man<\/p>\n
But Mother’s low is unanswered
\nby the calf they’ve dragged away
\nSoon she\u2019ll depart this world herself \u2013
\nthe abattoir beckons today<\/p>\n
The sow mourns her piglets,
\nthe ewe her lambs’ bloody fate
\nAll moving down production lines
\ntoward humans\u2019 voracious plate<\/p>\n
Mournful hens in wire pens
\nare never allowed to brood
\nthey dream of fluffy chicks unborn
\nfrom the eggs we stole for food<\/p>\n
The elephant calf sways in distress
\nbeside Mother’s body in the dust
\nmurdered by loathsome poachers
\nwho lusted after her tusks<\/p>\n
So spare a thought this Mother’s day
\nfor all Mothers large and small
\nThey so love their children \u2013
\nSo why can\u2019t we love them all?<\/p>\n
